Making Steady Progress in the Year Ahead

As a new year beckons, it is important to note that God wants it to be a year of unstoppable progress for you as a child of God. He wants you to prosper and be successful. He wants you to move forward.

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." (3 John 1.2)

"Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant." (Psalm 35.27)

"And the LORD said... speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward" (Exodus 14.15)

Here are some tips on avoiding stagnation and recording remarkable progress in the new year.

Identify and neutralize impediments to your progress
If barriers to progress are not eliminated, trying to make progress or achieve set goals would amount to trying to hold water in a porous container. Barriers to making progress and attaining our goals include laziness, procrastination, poor time management, lack of focus, indiscipline, unhelpful personal habits, ignorance, carnal indulgence, being chained to the past, fear of the future, vision-less contentment and lack of personal drive.

Identify what is holding you back and take it out of your way. Let go of the past where necessary and trust God for a great future. Expect great things.

Put in place wise and workable strategies
Progress is never accidental, you need to carefully and diligently plan for it. Carry out proper surveys on how to achieve your goal and put appropriate strategies in place. Mobilize resources towards attaining your goal.

Carry out regular evaluation and reset progressive goals where necessary. Practise proper time management and create time to pursue the goals you have set. Goals are no goals if they are not pursued. Progress would not be made if set goals remain just on paper.

Be humble, learn from those who know better than you.

Enlist divine support
Wise strategies are not enough. Ensure God is on your side. Pray, obey God's Word, have faith. Do not take God for granted. Actively seek his guidance and enlist His support in all the important steps you plan to take.

Now is the time to prepare to have a great new year. Plan now and hit the ground running.

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4.16)
